Xbox & PS5: The Future Of The Disk Is Bleak

Are the PS5 and the XBox Series X the last consoles that will support discs? We’re going to musie the prediction that physical media is almost dead and its undertaker is digital media. Although the BluRay and 4K UHD BluRay could go the way of the dodo bird, we’re going to talk about technology adopters, old tech that’s being phased out, resurrected tech, and dead tech that only lives on in the hearts of collectors and historians that does show us how we got here, but sadly, most of our children’s children may only see in museums and retro movies, which may only be available in a digital format.
We’re going to rewind the clocks back to 1962 when Spacewar! Was pumped out of MIT – the world’s first only digital video game that could be installed on multiple computers. Then there was Mattel’s Intellivision PlayCable, which allowed the download of up to four games a time and a total of 25 all digital video games per month, to now, with Steam, PS Now and xBox Game Pass laying the yellow brick road to an all digital future in which the past and all its physical media is swallowed up.
We’ll also look at BluRay and 4KUHD BluRays and how much they cost to manufacture, their capabilities, and reason whether or not they have the resiliency of some tech which seems to last forever – things like the vinyl disc.
