Which Console Brought Us The Most Innovation? (Nintendo, Sega, Xbox)

Which Console actually brought us the most innovation? Every console claims to be the future at launch, and now that we are at a certain point in the future with respect to the 2010s, the 2000s, and the 90s, 80s, and 70s, we are going to ask and answer the question: who was right?

Well, in a way, they all did. You can’t have the successes without the failures, but because we are bound by the construct of time, our video must be eight minutes and not eight hours like some Ken Burns documentary. In that time we will talk about seven consoles that brought us the furthest into the gaming future we’ve come to know thanks to the risks they took, and the tech they created which we now kind of take for granted. From the first ever home console to the first ever console with interchangeable games to online gaming and beyond, we here at The Gamer often sit on rocks like The Thinker and wonder what brought us here and why.

We also feel obliged to teach you, and ourselves, the history of video games, so that…we don’t repeat it we guess? Just kidding! But in all seriousness, it’s to know where we came from so we can have an idea where we’re going. Because if history has taught us something, it’s that it repeats itself, over and over, until the end of time, for no reason.
