Donald Trump’s former top Russia adviser, Fiona Hill, has told the impeachment inquiry that a US ambassador, Gordon Sondland, carried out a controversial “domestic political errand”.
She said the ambassador was not simply operating outside official diplomatic channels, but carried out instructions from Mr Trump.
In two weeks of hearings, Congress has heard repeated accounts that the White House put pressure on Ukraine to investigate Donald Trump’s main political rival Joe Biden.
