What do President Barack Obama and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle have in common? They’ve both worked to protect the ocean. After Obama announced the expansion of Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument surrounding the Hawaiian Islands—creating the largest protected area of land or sea—Earle had a chance to meet with the president. The two chatted about a shared interest in diving while a monk seal rested on the beach behind them.

Earle also introduced the president to his new namesake fish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSxl1blHa30
