Anytime a new fad arises, there’s always the select few of us that’ll buy out entire stocks of something in the hopes that it one day becomes extremely valuable. A few examples that come to mind may be familiar to you. In 1863, a man named Augustus Polnarik bought every napkin that a young Vincent Van Gogh doodled on because he swore the child would be a prodigy artist. In 1999, a couple got divorced and hired a lawyer to sort their beanie baby collection, worth upwards of $5,000, because they couldn’t decide who got the limited edition Maple Bear. Were these people clairvoyants? Visionaries? No. Were they big dorks? Yes, but so are we. Let’s take a look at what their fortunes would be today. Mr. Polnarik’s napkin collection would potentially be extremely valuable if we hadn’t made that story up, but the beanie baby story is true and would be valued at approximately zero dollars because beanie babies suck. But, do you know what doesn’t suck? That’s right. Video games.
Hindsight is 20/20 and, while your friends and family tell you that you need to get help because of your insane hoarding problem, please reference them this video. Tell them that they simply do not have the foresight that you do and that your Pikachu Cable-Bite from your most recent trip to Japan will one day be worth more than they can possibly imagine!
