Hundreds injured as Lebanon’s anti-government protests turn violent

Nearly 400 people have been wounded in Beirut as anti-government protesters tried to force their way into the parliament building.

Police responded with tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

Demonstrators have been calling for a new government in response to an economic crisis that has left many unable to pay rent, school fees and hospital bills.
