The Canadian seal hunt has been a controversial issue for decades. Animal rights groups clamor for its end while families in Nunavut, Newfoundland, and the Magdalen Islands are fighting to preserve their hunting traditions. The European Union and the United States have banned the sale of seal products, but in recent years there has been a surge of interest from Canada’s culinary world in the sustainable harvest of wild seal meat. Wanting to know more, we sent MUNCHIES correspondent Adam Gollner on a journey to seek out the key players involved in the debate.
