About Short Film Showcase:
The Short Film Showcase spotlights exceptional short videos created by filmmakers from around the web and selected by National Geographic editors. We look for work that affirms National Geographic’s belief in the power of science, exploration, and storytelling to change the world. The filmmakers created the content presented, and the opinions expressed are their own, not those of National Geographic Partners.

In 2011, Naghmeh Farzaneh left her home in Iran to study abroad in the United States. When she first arrived, a simple exchange—like selecting ingredients in line at a fast food restaurant—could quickly become an overwhelming situation. During these difficult times, Farzaneh would take comfort in thinking about a piece of wisdom her mother shared while planting geraniums. In Scent of Geranium, Naghmeh Farzaneh brings watercolors to life in a beautiful animation that highlights her experience as an immigrant.
