The 9th generation of gaming is on it’s way now that the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are on the shelves. As great as days are going to be for gamers everywhere, now is the perfect time to look back on the 8th generation of gaming. It was a time of great controversy but also of great innovation. New gaming experiences, mediums, technologies, styles and systems were created that revolutionized the industry forever.
From games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that proved exactly what an 8th gen game could be to God of War which showed just how cinematic gaming experiences could be to games that redefined the scope of what games could be like the infamous No Man’s Sky, the 8th generation was a true rollercoaster ride that seemed to drop you from one disappointment only to swiftly raise you up to some of gaming’s greatest heights.
New Nintendo products, VR technology and graphic advancements that were so great that they tended to break the games that tried to use them. Then there’s the Indie Game boom which brought a ton of incredible experiences like Celeste, The Outer Wilds, Untitled Goose Game, Undertale, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, Dead Cells and Cuphead. These games showed that you don’t need AAA money to drop a AAA experience.
Let’s dive back into the 8th generation of gaming to look at some of the best moments the PS4 and Xbox One had to offer.
