Sony’s getting their new Virtual Reality set to launch before we know it! Playstation gamers are already excited for the ps5 launch, but this could be a real game changer!
Sony Corp could have a PSVR 2 ready by 2025! Sony posted a rather curious ad for a job at Sony Corp is seeking out a VR developer for the next generation. They are building barrels and small lightweight housings that support optical systems, heat dissipation design, and development of jigs for optical system evaluation. Could this be for the mythical PSVR 2? We’re going to examine that possibility, speculate on price, and describe what we want from it.
The PSVR has sold 5 million units and it being PS5 supported should open up its wings a little more, but in five years time, the hunger for more should be fully settled in as the desire to immerse oneself in an alternate augmented reality as well should be at an all time high. The ever increasing skepticism from our eyes adjusting to 4K, HDR, etc will mean we will demand improved graphics, as we don’t want to doubt our eyes for a second. We want this to be the stuff of sci-fi novels and Star Trek – something we wish we could tell our ancestors we’ve witnessed and use it as a symbol of how far our civilization has come.
What would we like to play? Since the PSVR has let us wear the red and gold of Tony Stark, use the force as cinema legend Darth Vader, and will let us pull some steel as Agent 47, we want to be able to play all the heroes and villains. We want to crawl through vents as Die Hard’s John MacLean, push our policing to the edge as Robocop or Detective Martin Riggs, and steal artifacts as Drake or Lara Croft. That’ll really make the Oculus seem like an artifact of the stone age.
