Following the critically acclaimed series Luther, The Hour and Whitechapel , BBC AMERICA’s Dramaville presents another opportunity to see the award-winning conspiracy drama, STATE OF PLAY. Don’t miss an all new episode of the celebrated miniseries *** Wednesday Dec 14 at 10/9c *** only on BBC America.
Written by Paul Abbott (Shameless) and directed by David Yates (Harry Potter movies, Sex Traffic), the miniseries stars Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean), John Simm (Life on Mars, Doctor Who), David Morrissey (Viva Blackpool, South Riding), James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class, Wanted) and Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) in a rollercoaster thriller of deceptions and collusion in the corridors of power
How do you get to the truth when everyone is lying?
After the murder of DI Brown, the Metropolitan Police puts the tough-minded DCI Bell (Philip Glenister, Life on Mars) on the investigation. He knows Della (Kelly Macdonald) is withholding information and is determined to find out what she and Cal (John Simm) know. Meanwhile, Stephen Collins (David Morrissey)’ story becomes more complicated when an anonymous fax reveals that his affair with Sonia was far from being superficial — Stephen was going to leave his wife Anne (Polly Draper) for her.
The revelation is another headache for the party’s spin doctor, Andrew Wilson, who is trying to keep Stephen’s reputation intact. It also gives Cal pause for thought — why did Stephen lie to him? When Anne leans on him for support and information, Cal finds it increasingly hard to steer a professional line. Worst still, the trust between him and Della disintegrates when she realizes her life is in danger.
