Any plot is incomplete without an opposing force to try and halt the progress of a protagonist, or the heroes in general. However, even though the “good guys” are the ones the audience has to cheer for or has the plot mostly centered around them, it doesn’t stop the fact that the bad guys or anti-heroes can be just as interesting, if not even more. Throughout hundreds upon thousands of Anime series being released over several decades, there have been villains of all shapes and sizes, some who are generic evil, lackluster or outright vile, and the ones who are so brilliantly written that the audience may find themselves cheering for them in spite of their intentions.
Naruto has quite a wide array of interesting and well-designed villains, but if any evildoer was as complex as they were powerful, it would have to be Madara, who proved to be one of the biggest threats in the history of the series. Although Kaguya was revealed to be the big baddie at the end of Shippuden, the vast majority of western fans find Madara to be more appealing and likeable. Aizen from Bleach also shares many of Madara’s attributes, but his planning is what made him so fearsome as the series progressed into its halfway point. Despite his nature, Aizen decided to help the heroes at the end of the series against “The Almighty” Quincy, not because it was the “right thing to do”, but because it was in his best interest. In this video, we’ll go over many more villains that are also well-received amongst fans, so sit back and relax!
