Waluigi is the dark horse of the Mario franchise. While villains like Bowser and Wario typically get all of the glory, Waluigi is not far behind, lurking in a corner and planning his next great evil strategy. The sworn enemy of Luigi, there are a lot of things fans may not know about him. Learn about these facts and get to see a whole different side of Waluigi.
Many players assume that Waluigi was named that because it was a mix of Wario and Luigi. It is actually a Japanese translation of two words combined to form his name. Waluigi may be a supporting character in the Mario franchise, but there are many dedicated fans that have made their own games featuring the villain. Waluigi is not only the arch-nemesis of Luigi, but they share the same exact birthday and age. Waluigi wasn’t created for the need to add another villain to the Mario franchise. He was made as an evil counterpart to Wario so that the two could dominate in double tennis matches. In one of the Mario Party games, Waluigi actually owns his own island, but the whole game board may have been stolen from Luigi in the first place. The symbol on Waluigi’s hat may look like an upside “L”, but there’s a popular theory that it’s actually a letter from the Greek alphabet. Waluigi was never really the main villain in any game until he showcased his ultimate dance moves in Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix. Nintendo may own the rights to Mario, but the team behind him didn’t actually create him. Waluigi’s best powers aren’t from any flower plants or other power-ups, it’s actually his legs that give him so much power. Waluigi isn’t all evil.
